Hi all,

I unfortunately have a developing disability and am having increasing trouble getting in and out of my 2800CS. I think what may prolong the inevitable is switching out the seats to something with a significant height adjustment so I can lift it up when I'm entering and exiting (thus why I'm selling my seat skins elsewhere rather than rebuilding CS seats).

I would love some advice from some of you more experienced as to what options I may have. I haven't been driving it much (nearly at all) recently secondary to the issues getting in and out.

Thank you all in advance for your thoughts.

i sent a PM to find out more about your seats.

one option might be electrical seats from an e24 (635csi).

Yeah, but those have those external switch sets mounted behind the e-brake. He may have an easier time with slightly later seats, like from an E34/E32/E31. Those seats have the seat controls mounted directly on the seat, so he wouldn't have to find a spot to add the controls. The hard part would be modifying the rail system, since the original rails are a good 6" off the floor due in part to that funky hump under the front seats.

Maw8c- how tall are you? That may determine how much custom work you need to do.

You beat me to it. I think most any e21, e24 or e28 seat that you drop in will sit a bit higher than the stock coupe seats (some actually sit too high but i cant recall which). Makes it much easier to get in and out as all you have to do is rotate and stand. Also, the later seats, whether mechanical or electrical may offer additional height and tilt adjustments which will probably come in handy. The e21 seats i have im my coupe only slide forward/back and tilt but they are much firmer and for me, more comfortable.

Seats

Really appreciate your help, all. I'm 6'2". The seats could get too high in a hurry. Probably would have to something that could lift and lower to work.

Actually, since the seat rails are flat and have an open space between them, what if you mounted a swivel joint between the seat and the rails? Then when you wanted to get out, you could simply lift your legs out of the car and turn the seat. I've seen that sort of thing done on buses and the like before, but never a coupe.

I think stock seats would be too wide to swivel. I am 6'5" and have plenty of head room (no S/R) so stock seats can be raised to give you more height. Just add bushings under the seat rails and use longer M6 bolts.
