Hello
Do any of you find that once you get into your coupe you have to fish around for the seat belt. Usually it's the shoulder strap that you trying to grab and its behind the seat and hard to reach. I'm looking for a holder of some sort that will hold the belt in place to the seat so its alway in the same place when your ready to strap in. Does anyone have a solution for this or know of a part I should look at. BMW has a universal seat belt holder, (part number 52 300 302 425) but it won't fit my set of recaro's as the headrest pillars are too far apart. Thanks

Great idea

I believe the problem is not searching for the seatbelt but it is the seatbelt doing damage the the interior chrome strip on the door...

I would be open to any suggestions that you may have...

THanks Daniel

My CSL has, on both sides, a small black hook in the roof for hooking the male tab for storage. I have no idea how they are attached to the roof behind the headliner. There seems to be a small block of some kind behind the headliner that it is attached to. I have often wondered if this is OEM or someone found the solution to the same problem you have. Anyone else have these hooks in their Ls ? I have Autoflug belts that attach to the hat rack.

Roger, thanks for the reply.

My recently purchased autoflug seat belts have that same black hook within the box. I wasn't sure were to mount and wasn't sure how effective it would be. It appears that you hang the belt on it when its not in use. I'm thinking about something that perhaps leverages the headrest posts that would hold the seat belt while it is both in use or not in use. I see these things on modern cars, just not yet in a coupe.

Hoping someone else has ran it this and has a good solution

Hi Madman

I have the same problem with my present car. My previous (Left hook from Holland) had fittings mounted through the timber mouldings in the back, just back from the door opening. It was fine there apart from having to reach back to grab the buckle.

I am trying to find out where I can get something I can use or modify to do the job. Will let you know if I find anything.

If it were possible to adapt the electronic mechanism that pushes the seatbelt forward to you as in an old Merc 500SEC I had a few years ago that would be amazing. Having it hooked to the seat would be a pain for passengers, but I guess it'd be good otherwise.

Shoulder strap alternative?

Over the years I have seen a couple of alternatives that may be less obtrusive. I wish I had pictures, but I do not.

One alternative had a plate anchored by the seat head rest posts. The plate was bent at a right angle which held/supported each shoulder strap a few centimeters above the top of the seat back. Another alternative was different (presumably) aftermarket seats that had an (integral) molded plastic support for the strap off to the side of the seats. In both of the above cases, I was reminded of common approaches to shoulder harnesses found on topless/spyder/convertible cars.

There are obviously less elegant approaches. I parked next to an E9 that had handles built into the roof for rear seat passengers. I know my cars have not had this feature, but it would be easy thing to bungee the shoulder strap from there. I once observed a beater E9 with, what I think was, a wide stainless steel strap suspended from the interior of the roof to support a shoulder harness. I remember it because my first reaction was to comment out loud that apparently at least one E9 is/was a sedan.

P.S. This topic was indirectly addressed in another post. The best I can do is offer the following: http://e9coupe.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2588

I installed some Scheel Sport seats a couple of months ago and my solution was to mount the seat belt retractable unit to a crossmember under the seat. The other end of the belt is bolted into the stock location by the doorsill. I then used a wide leather belt blank doubled over with holes punched for the headrest pillars to pass through. The loop sticks out about three inches from the headrest on top of the seat back and holds the belt there. You can tilt the seat and the belt extends and stays out of the way snug against the seatback. It is easy to get to and is very comfortable. I used belts that matched the upgraded three point belts in the rear and all use the chrome receivers. Looks great and works even better. If anyone wants some pictures I will email them to you.
