I tried about a dozen different word combinations in the search without any luck. Has anyone covered disassembling the front seats, hopefully with some photos :confused::confused: Many thanks. ~ John Buchtenkirch

I didn't take any pictures ,but I did take my seats apart last month.

You remove all the obvious bolts on the outside of the seat, and it still won't come apart.....My california car still had one of these bolts rusted in and it had to be drilled out.

There are 2 rather small snap rings on each side of the seat on the inside face of the recline hinge, that actually hold it all together. They are concentric with the bar that goes across, that links the seat recline adjustment.

It took me a while to figure this one out....
Have fun!

I pulled the seat apart last night and took photos which will follow as I get further along. As I suspected the lower rubberized horse hair seat cushion is pretty well shot and NLA from BMW. I’m sure others have been down this road --- has anyone substituted cushions from another car ?

I guess you could just let the upholstery guys stuff foam in there but I feel it would only be a mater of time before the springs cut thru the foam :(. I was thinking I might make a sheet metal pan to sit on top of the springs to avoid that but I’d like to have a second opinion on that. Any ideas or thoughts from anyone would be appreciated right now. Making things out of metal doesn’t faze me but I’m certainly out of my zone :confused::confused: with upholstery work. Thank you ~ John Buchtenkirch

There are newer materials for the horse hair mat on the seat bottom. I don't remember what it is called but any upholsterer would know.

I do NOT think that a metal seat pan would give you what you want in a finished product!

When I had my interior redone I couldn't figure out how to get the seat apart so left that job too someone that did know.

Steve, I guess I should have been a little more specific, the seat pan would be covered with foam and then of course the leather. The steel pan would just keep the springs from cutting into the foam. I wouldn’t be sitting directly on the pan . ~ John Buchtenkirch
