Hello

My 1972 E9 has beautiful blue covers. Looks like recently performed upholstery.

However, the stuffing and springs are so squishy that I am positioned way too low for safe visibility .

Therefore my question is has anyone out there ever performed a fortification with higher density foam and or springs. Would appreciate any and all recommendations.

Not sure about springs, but they sell plastic horse hair that can be used in place of the original. Best to seek out an upholstery person. Most of the restoration shops I have talked to about this outsource their upholstery work to a specialist. If you list your location, maybe someone can make a recommendation.

During restoration seats are often redone by specialists and they basically craft "something out of nothing": They start with block foam and rolls of textile/vinyl/leather of which they decided the dimensions on the spot. A bit like a tailored dress if you will. So as far as i know there are no "of the shelf" (repro) parts

Here's a link to an overview of spare parts that we know of: https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/specialty-replacement-parts-from-e9coupe-members.47423/post-416809

An Easy way to check if it can be improved is to simply use a bunch of tye wraps, and see if reinforcing the springs make a difference.
DO you know if the foam pieces have been replaced when the upholstery was renewed? If so, then the spring are likely the cause.

If not, then it could be either springs, or foam, or both I'd say.

Similar to what Erik is getting at, my Bavaria seats were a bit tired and I took them to an upholsterer and he told me to jam a piece of wood between the springs to limit their excursion .
