a friend found a video of an open-air barn find:

a pity/shame to leave the car there to rotten and lose it beyond the point of repair (if it was really almost perfect when stopped)

but my question comes to this odd feature/device: a door window retractable curtain:

my bet is for an invention/adaptation, but have you seen one like this before ?

here the video:

Window shade is not a BMW item when the cars were new, it was added much later & the brackets are attached to the door wood trim.

Appears in Italy, no-one is at all concerned about workplace safety with petro-chemicals welding or atomized paints, perhaps it's only for the show. The U.S. appears to be 180° in vehicle restoration workplace safety, gloves, welding helmets & painting respirators are common precautions.

That shade was bolted on to the door. Not E9.
Cool video, is there a continuation video where we see the outcome?

Lots of people involved in that project, all with strong opinions and wisdom...

The most impressive clip is at 34min 38 seconds where he is hand spinning the crankshaft. THAT, is impressive.

Great filming, really enjoyed this. Funny to see the disgust on his face when the repair shop tells his what the estimated costs are for the parts.

Let's say I understand him!

And they spend 5K at Walloth, but don't take the fenders off, nor attack the sill structure (well , at least it is not covered in this episode).

scary fenders:

I am a bit skeptical as well about their repair method. For example:
In the front wing there are a few rust holes. They cut it out, and voila, they see rust in the layer underneath (in the Apillar). So they decide to cut that as well.

2 chops:

wire wheel the brown stuff away (-isch):

insert a plate:

But what happened to the brown stuff that's just around the corner, the inside of the fender and the A pillar?

I get a feeling they are skipping a ~30 K bill to do the fenders and sill properly....
Or i might be surprised in a second episode!

In the front wing are a few rust holes. They cut it out, see rust below (in the Apillar), so decise to cut that as well.

i have the same feeling, they are dealing with the surface, but not with the inner layers of steel

p.s. super funny when he says that all the interior parts are available in Germany while he is looking at W&N catalog pages...hilarious !

Speaking Italian, we will have to speak in German.

Rust is the Universal Language of cars.

It is said, Italians build cars with passion.
It is said Germans build cars with engineering.
It is said the French build cars that are unique.
It is said the British build cars with double redundancies.
It is said the Japanese build reliable cars.
It is said the U.S. builds cars & trucks.
