Totally off coupe/E9 topic but I finally watched the movie "SENNA" over the weekend.

I was 11 years old when Senna died prematurely and tragically. Not only was the man a magician in the car (particularly the rain) but he has a lasting positive impact on some many lives in Brazil.

If you haven't seen the movie, you can download it of iTunes as I did.... great inflight movie from Boston to Vancouver... the only downside is that I was crying at the end and the people next to me obviously thought I am a little sensitive ;-)

highly recommended.

I was lucky enough to see it in the theater in New York last September when I went to the US Open tennis. I dragged my non-car friend to it and he thought it was great. He was amazed that someone he had never heard of was such a huge figure in Brazil, and in the world.

Andrew, thanks for sharing the TopGear link. I am a frequent viewer of TopGear but I did not see this episode. Cheers from Vancouver Canada.

being a long time Alain Prost fan... I noticed that the movie has really made Prost into one of the Villains. Still, I have to admit, I also nearly had tears in my eyes at the end of it. He did so much for his home country.

I am a fellow Aussie, I had the pleasure to attend the F1 GP in Adelaide for 8 years and then Melbourne for 4 years.... over the past 20 years these are the drivers I have followed (from the past to present):
* Keke Rosberg (he was my hero when he won in Adelaide in 1985)
* then when Keke retired I started to follow Nigel Mansell, great on some days, amazingly incompetent on others
* then when Nige retired to Indy racing I started to follow Michael Schumacher when he was with Benetton (so I am a true follower from the beginning, not a fair-weather fan)
* then when Michael retired I went patriotic and started to follow Mark Webber and have since 2006)

The F1 drivers however that I never could respect include Alain Prost... the Professor, bah, he was a statistician rather than a racing driver... sorry, Alain was out raced, and Alain knew it. But that's what made the F1 racing so fantastic from the 1980s through the 1990s pre the Schumacher era of dominance.

Prost vs Senna

I like this, back to the good old Prost vs Senna chat days....
I probably cannot remember why exactly I was a Prost-Fan, same as you, in the 80's I was only in my early teens. Maybe I liked his helmet color, or the red and white Malboro sponsored McLaren cars. But I remember seeing how smooth his driving was compared to others and I was actually impressed with how methodical his championships titles were like. Like in 1986 (when he was teammates with Keke), winning the championship with just enough points against the faster Honda powered Williams.
But yes, as much as I loved seeing him in the red Ferrari, those probably become the bad years for him, in my mind. His pace was not as good (as Senna), yes, and he was becoming too methodical, esp that last year at Williams. He 'stopped racing' after getting enough points for the championship.. was a bit disappointing.
But, I still blame Senna for crashing into Prost in 1990 in Japan , Prost could have been the guy to bring that long awaited Championship back to Ferrari.

and I also remember following that skinny German guy in the Jordan and then Benetton who was really starting to shine... still a MS fan too

I'm a Brazilian and US dual national. In a country where soccer is first, car racing is second. He was the 'Michael Jordan' of Brazil...he was that big. A fantastic movie, regardless of where your allegiances stand.
