Somewhat intrigued by the numbers stamped on the left-hand door post on both of my RHD e9's. Normally, it is hidden by the Karmann colour-code plate. It is located between the door-brake fixing lugs and the door interior light switch. On my CSL (Vin 2285295) the stamp clearly reads 10199. On my CSi (Vin 4350022) it is not so clear but appears to be 14511. I presume that these are Karmann numbers as they bear no correspondence with the Vin Numbers. Any ideas, anyone? While I think about it, can anyone tell me how come the CSL is shown on the DVLA Form V5 as being a BMW 3.0CSL Saloon but the CSi is shown as being a BMW Saloon (i.e. no Model/Type). Is this normal for DVLA? Best wishes, John.
