Gazz, there is an easier way to do it; just cover the ring finger (with the exception of the band area) with sun screen for about a week, carry-on as usual and all will be good, if necessary rinse and repeat- all but the most discerning will never notice and those who do are too discerning!

And Andrew, a question; have you ever seen a car with a bumper sticker that says "I Love My Wife"... think about it... NOT COOL. Tattoos are bumper stickers worn on the body and they ruin the paint IMHO.
 
Also Andrew, I only charge 350.00 per hour for therapy so I'll have to send you a bill if you need any more of my analysis, sorry, but we all have to eat :-)
