With a swap to a 5 speed transmission, someone recommended using a lower shift lever from a 320i

there are 2 listed for 320i:

25111220217 Up to 9/1977

25111205870 320i from 9/1977 up to 9/1979

Can anyone tell me the difference?

The early one says also fits E9 which seems odd as the shift rod attachment is different

The ball diameter looks to be the same

The early one that I bought has a plastic ‘ball’

I could use the E9 one if I ground off the set screw that holds the shift rod

Thoughts?

Thanks

Part number from Carl Nelson's article is 25 11 1 220 213, which cross references on realoem to 25 11 1 205 870. It looks like 205 870 is superseded by 220 213.

thanks, I now have a 25111220217 any idea of the difference?

As you note, that is a stock shifter for an e9 four speed transmission. I don't know a lot about those; I went from an auto to a five speed.
