Hi I've owned my 2800 for 12 years and the shifter console has never been screwed down to the trans tunnel. I also bought a Coupeguy replacement leather shifter boot and want to replace it but not sure how it attaches.
Does anyone have a tutorial on either or both?

Thanks,

Each side panel has a small wood block, L bracket from platform attaches to them via a wood screw. Accessed when switches are pushed up from below and unplugged. As you have early switches with spade connectors be sure you know where they go.

DeQ's step by step is as always brilliant and I referred to it when putting together my centre consol too.
I did not go to the trouble of remaking the side kick panels and after being recovered, found out the hard way that 40 year old chipboard doesn't like holding onto 40 year old screws. After a couple of failed attempts I decided to remake the metal base so as to have new holes and more support. I fabricated a new longer and wider bracket that holds both the sides and the gear surround and supplemented that with 2 right angle brackets that hold the front of the surround to the sides to give four points of contact. This allowed sufficient strength for the whole unit to be installed in one piece over the gear lever and into place. Hope this makes sense and helps.

Thanks guys I am not sure I fully understand how to attach the shifter boot, but I am going to start taking it apart for closer inspection.

Yes, and there is a metal band that goes over it to keep it in place.

I believe the leather boot is just stapled to the underside.

The bottom of the boot is folder over a metal ring, and then held in place with a series of small nails. DeQ's thread shows this pretty well.
