Hey guys - has anyone ever boxed the brake booster so that the a hydroboost could then be bolted up to the firewall? I spoke with the ever knowledge Terry C and I wanted to see if there exists any pictures of such an endeavor on this site.

Charofire,

I saw the PM before your post so here's some comments.

So you want to get rid of the booster, shorten the neck and then weld the plate with the four studs back on? That's no problem. If you want to weld the plate that the hydro boost attaches to onto the shortened neck, that should be fine as long as the plate is close in size. The only real fussy part is cutting the neck to the vertical so everything is "plumb".

But I don't have much in the way on photos of the shortened neck I did for the Tii booster I have in mine.

Any pictures would be helpful. Thanks for the reply.

Shortening the Booster neck

Here's a left and right of the shortened neck with a Tii booster to clear the intake manifold of a late b35 head. Also an overhead of the MC, booster and neck (in shadow unfortunately). I removed approximately 3 1/2" from the neck to get about 3/4" clearance from the bottom corner of the intake air chamber.

In this case the amount removed from the neck is limited by the return hose from the overflow tank. Each intake/carb setup with have it's own set of constraints but there is nothing that would stop you from shortening the neck even more than this. Make sure you have confirmed that the mounts are the same with whatever booster you use and that you have solved the rod and hardware connecting the pedal to the booster. The easiest way to accurately mark the neck for cutting is to screw/bolt the booster mounting plate to your bench so the pedal box is upright, make a block the thickness of the proposed cut and scribe your line. Make some reference marks on the plate and neck so the orientation is as the factory intended.

Pause. Reflect. Measure again. Repeat over and over - then cut.
