My friend just found this in Japan. he ships two containers a month full with parts and cars so shipping wont be a problem.

he said this car is very rare here in the USA.. is he right?

They only made between 110 and 153 of them depending on the source. Either way I would say they are rare everywhere.

Yes. You should buy all Alpinas when you have the chance. But there are many fakes in the US, never heard of a fake in Japan, but anything is possible.

Assuming it's real and you get it inside the US and get a US title, and it has all the critical Alpina parts still on it, it's probably worth $30,000 as-is. (looks pretty rough)

Definitely a car to consider, price wise they run about the same as E9s and E28 M5s here in EU. Good examples 40-50K, barn finds/restoration candidates some 15-20K range depending on the condition. The E28 has generally less body rust, but is not rustproof. The biggest concern with an old Alpina is the technical side - many parts are not available anymore even from Alpina, so a general overhaul costs an arm and 2 legs at least :). If the price was right, I'd be interested in it though!
