Side Marker Poll

Should USA mandated side markers stay on the car for the sake of originality, or be removed?

I removed the fronts when I had the car painted 14 years ago but left the backs because they are lit. If I was doing the car now, they'd all be gone.
 
They don’t belong on the car and ruin the lines in my opinion. They are an afterthought added to comply with US regs.

My '73 had them back in the late '70's/early 80's. I detested them, but wasn't financially in a position to get them removed. I was delighted when I inspected the '74 a few years ago (which I subsequently bought) and found both F and R had been removed during it's restoration in the late '80's (along with replacement of the F&R diving boards with European bumpers). So - it looks like it would have for a European buyer, not the NHTSA modified version.
 
Gone from mine. Removed during the restoration.

i think the fronts are redundant + look silly - no doubt they should be removed.

i am slightly conflicted on the rears - they help slightly on side visibility of the rear. once you remove them, after you fix the hole in the metal + repaint it ... then you have to remove the elephant skin in the trunk - cut new panels + install ... not expensive, just a PITA.

Forgot to have my rear markers removed during a long ago paint job. Hate them. Drat.
 
im silly as i like them as they add another trim detail to the car
and there stock on the 74 so they belong there from the factory in calif.
also like the color contrast
 
For all those who still have their side markers, a friend has a couple/ few pairs of the rear red ones, brand new, for sale.
He is asking for €60/ pair via PayPal and for mailing them to the US. He doesn't have the front orange ones.
Please ask your questions since we are not well versed with these side markers.
If interested, please send me a pm and I'll get you the PayPal payment address and have it mailed directly from the seller.
