There is some rust on the front sections of the sills on the 2800 3.5l/5 sp conversion we are doing. The inner and intermediate parts are on sale at W&N and I am strongly contemplating these plus the outer as well. Anyone had any experience with this repair? Do the parts fit out of the box, or is there custom fitting necessary? Thanks in advance. Walter

I picked up the lower rear quarter patch panels from W&N. They needed to be modified a bit as they were about 1/8" to long. I also bought both front fenders from them. They were both off and according to my body man not usable. We ended up cutting out the replacement bits from the new fender to splice into the existing. Again I am assuming there is only one manufacturer of these?

The main outer sill piece - not the decorative piece - bought from BMW, was a perfect fit. I am not sure if W&N gets them for the same source (they probably do).

I have indeed heard also that the E9 fenders sold by BMW do not fit properly, to the point of unuseable... Whether that is true or a fluke I don't know for sure, I don't have hands-on experience with this myself. I suppose W&N resells those, so that makes sense.

It is not that the parts are bad. Every e9 was hand built, and different. Some may argue the former point, but 40 years later no one can argue the latter. Through my own hands on experience, and observation of many coupe projects at Fechner Restoration, every piece of sheet metal, new or used, will need tweaking to fit you car correctly.
