You are right, there are a lot of similarities. In general they have the same bodyshape. In reality they are quite different due to the size of the body and engine layout. The Lancia is a very cute, but small coupe (typical italian) and 4 cylinder front wheel drive. The BMW is a lot bigger and more expensive coupe (typical german) and 6 cylinder rear wheel drive.
A couple of years ago I was searching for a first series Lancia Fulvia, and in the end I bought a very early BMW 2800CS
