Hi folks,
I have a torn down 1970 2800cs and would like to get a sizing of the project.
As soon as I can figure it out, I'll post a few pictures that indicate the status of things.
I have it mostly sandblasted/primered except for the underbody and have not seen
any perforating rust other than around the windshield channel, which has already been
repaired. The floorboards and spare tire well are the ugliest parts, but even they do not
need replacement metalwork.
As you'll notice, the drivetrain is now a 1986 M30/ Getrag 260 out of a 1986 635csi
that got totalled at 110k. I have the nice electric Recaro fronts and matching rears
(if they can be fitted).
Mechanically, it needs lots of stuff including: full rolling rebuild (suspension, brakes,
bushings), exhaust, driveshaft, tii-brake-booster, fresh wire harness, fuel pump/fuel
line installation, Glass, and Wood. Lots more probably, but I prefer to be in denial.
This project has been sleeping for too long, and I am looking for advice and help to
get it moving. I wouldn't mind finding a retired or otherwise not too busy mechanic who
could lead me through some of the tasks that I can almost do with a little instruction, like
paint prep, wiring, mechanicals, but also take the lead on finding services that I can't do,
like exhaust, glass, and wood.
Oh, and since I'm compelled to start a full house remodel this year, I need to find a place
to store/work on it in the vicinity of 94306. I'd really like to find a mech to work/store it for
the year and bring it forward to a more complete level, doesn't have to be 100%, but
some mutually agreed definition, time and materials thing.
pix coming soon.
