Hello Gentlemen, Taking the cylinder head off next week to replace the camshaft on my 1972 BMW Bavaria, Vin # 3103568. Need to either rent the slide hammer tool to remove the rocker arm shafts or find the thread size of the shafts to make my own tool? Either way would be good for my endeavor please?

Thank you.

Larry,
I don't know the thread size, but many auto parts stores loan slide hammers. You might try your favorite one.

Hello Dick, I have a small slide hammer with various attachments and a Harbor Freight about ten minutes away. Would like to have tools ready to go next week when I start. Or even an old worn out rocker shaft with good threads to measure.
Good to hear from you,
Larry

Wladek is correct, M12 x 1.00 mm, a very fine thread for M12 hardware.
McMaster-Carr has threaded rod in this size... https://www.mcmaster.com/95245A233/

The factory slide hammer tool...
