Hi

My bodywork guy tells me, these are sewn from leather and using a rubber pipe/silicone in there. Glued in place. I am curios if the below parts are made to substitute the complicated leather-pipe thingies or was it maybe after a certain year, BMW ditched these and replaced with rubber ones like below? I have a 1974 and no idea what to use as reference.

What does your car have and what year is it? I would appreciate a photo too.

pre '74 cars used vinyl wrapped around a rubber stem. that's what was on my car ... i did some drawings - post 17 of this thread

Photo of mine from a 72. I took them off when I was breaking in my new door seals thinking it would lessen the required slamming. Never put them back on. I always assumed they were to protect the edges of the door cards from nicks.

Any idea if the larger fronts (attached to A-pillar are) would also be rubber on 1974+ cars?

Doors was leather, pillars was vinyl at mine.
Still wondering, why I habe 2 diff types.
Pillar toes have much thicker rubber inlay.
Low mileage car looks like never changed.

after translating the rubber gasket info I get the following, also product codes:

Type: Piping set door / door board / side panel 4 pieces
Shape: 8 mm round rubber with 20 mm flag.
Colour: black
Material: "moss rubber" with "tab" for hidden gluing
Other: 4 "piping" in a set, 2x 57 cm & 2x 56 cm long
(without glue, glue packaging was for illustration purposes only)
Recommended glue: Pattex Extrem Power flexible
(but can be ordered for an additional charge of €7)
Position: Piping A = chrome strip on A-pillar 57cm
Corresponds to part number: 51 72 1 825 951
Position: Piping B = door card on A-pillar 57cm
Corresponds to part number: 51 41 1 813 381
Position: Piping C = door card on B-pillar 56cm
Corresponds to part number: 51 41 1 813 381
Position: Piping D = chrome strip on B-pillar 56cm

So they sell 8mm thickness for both the door card and pillar and one set of 4 gaskets is for one side. I missed this info first, thought the 4 pieces would be for both left and right
