will bring BIG $--possibly in excess of 1 Mill--especially with the Rudge knockoff wheels. That one reminds me of the first ride I had in a BMW in 1958--a similar 507 that my buddy had borrowed.
How borrowed such a rare bird you ask--1 of 252 that were built? His brother worked at FoMoCo in their advanced Engineering Dept. and Ford had bought one to evaluate it--so brother had brought it home--so younger Brother borrowed it to transport two young men to the Highland Park Headquarters for Chrysler Corp. where we both worked at that time long ago. A memorable ride to say the least--smooth, fast and beautiful--especially for the time when Detroit was building chromed "tanks".
In 1996 when BMW was the honored marque at the Historics--Count von Goertz himself was there--I met him a very nice gentleman--and he had volunteered to sign his name on the inner glove box door of any of the six 507's that were in attendance for the event. Wonder how long it's been since six of those beauties have gathered elsewhere?
I am surprised that the estimate on the Stella M1 is "only" $400000-600000. Unless BMW in the future sells their art cars (unlikely), this is the next best thing - similar in some ways to Stella's design for the official e9 art car. Stella of course was a racing fan and a decent race driver in his own right. We will see.
