i took the first photo's of the car for you guys.
i am on this cross road again on what o do...
she won't be a show car... so taking her back to the original (silver) color
doesn't really matter.
i would like to tun her into a alexander calder gr 4 art car copy... and i've been on the fence with that for ages... i mean donkeys years.
it's an early car (1969) actually the 46th build... so it might have some value to it...
i have new leather seat covers... and that's the reason why the pass seat isn't in the car.
i also have the bumpers and all the little lights that aren't put on yet...

makes me think... what would you think the cars value could be...
she got rust... and needs some body work done

Calder bling

My $.02......Buy the finest Calder poster you can, and hang it next to your polaris work of art in the garage.......or not.

I just couldn't see myself driving a Calder look-a-like down the road. In spite of the original's tremendous appeal to the cognati, 99.9% of folks will be looking for the Red Bull sign shaking their heads.

That's just me, do whatever turns you on.

Add another $.02. Looked at all the pics. It seems like a complete car in need of a decent respray in Polaris. Add the new leather a little detailing and that's a coupe to be proud of.

But you have to live with it.

Gung Ho!

It looks like a good starting point for your project. My .02 cents, don't start it unless you are
determined to finish it. It's like having a child, damn the torpedos, just do it!

Good Luck

Ed

Go Calder

I think the Calder group 4 clone is a great idea. But buying the bodywork may be costly. Do you have an 8 series that is already an art car? What is the story with that? Pics?

I'm with Ed - I like the idea of Calder having painted ONE coupe like that. But, I'm not sure the world needs a second one. And yea, I myself would feel sort of conspicuous driving a red, white, blue, and yellow car with wings and numbers on it. But, as we always say here on the e9 Forum, it's your car and your money, so....

My 2 cents worth

Sell your car now as is. If you're determined to do a Calder clone, use the proceeds to buy someone else's abandoned Grp 4 project. You'll certainly pay a lot less for all the body panels and you'll be a lot further down the road toward your goal.

Silver with blue leather is my favorite coupe combo, plus it's a really early example which adds some funk factor. I say restore it to original especially if the numbers match and it's not too rusty.

thank you guys for your input

well the car is not going to be a daily driver.
and with the calder paint job she would be a track queen (why does that sound funny to me? hmmm) anyway.

being it a very early car polaris might be the way to go... even though that color is kind of common.

and yeah, the ca is definetely going to be finished.

the car came from the atkinson family, who's second owner. people that know peter gregg know that name :D. and jack atkinson himself said to me... why don't you turn her into a race car?

so it's a tough call...
i one way... i think the car needs to be preserved in stock appearance...
(i wanna be able to sell her one day lol)
on the other hand...

gimme more .2 cents...

Wow a 2800cs

Originally Polaris metallic ? Now why would you paint something as classic as this other than the original color? It's in pretty dam good shape where did you find this one? When the decision came down on the color to paint my 65 Ford Mustang 2+2 there was no question. Honey Gold, specific to one year, and one year only in 1965, lucky for me it was the original color. Someone had painted the car metallic blue once, mid 70's from look of the oxidization. Rust, what's that? They all have rust, don't care what anyone says, it will only be a matter of time, keeping mine Polaris no trailer queen either... Where is the rust you speak of, quick grab some granulated walnut shells, and get to work. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust without a die grinder, cutting wheel, and welder they all would rust...

I agree that if you want to go "art car" to put a little paint into this project, sell it and buy a tub ready to make the transition. Coupe Guy had one for a while and we have seen a few posted for sale here over the last year or so.

In the mean time, if you haven't registered this coupe at CS Registry (see above). Please do.
