I guess I've been doing it wrong all these years..
 
Likely that NGK is trying to protect themselves from shade tree gorillas (and lawsuits).

20% less torque when using antisieze will net roughly same tension depending on grade and size of fastener. Plating may enhance this scenario a bit.

Plating can weaken some substrates, but I don't think it's a factor here. It all about the friction between threads and resulting tension.

61- Bet you could hit 99% within spec without a torque wrench, lubed or not.
 
i had never used anti-seize compounds
the only tip I played is to clean the thread in the engine head with a circular brush diped in gasoline, and let it dry before installing a new spark plug
