SO since the oem has a 4 speed
shouldnt i need to have the speedo recalibrated to the
85 5 series 5 speed overdrive.
it wont work so have to send it to la speedo wierd i must have pushed the back clip to far forward

Not if your tire ratio and diff ratio havent changed.

Also, it depends on rear axle ratio. My '74 with a 265/6 trans and a 3.64 diff had a speedo that was 20% faster than actual speed. When I changed the diff to 3.07 (OE ratio on the e24's with 265/6 trans), the speedo is now dead on match with GPS speed.
