By the end of Vermont’s driving season I’ve always got a list of maintenance and upgrade projects to be completed before Spring. Well they’re all done, and we took it out for the first drive yesterday. Heavenly, and no need to listen to the radio given the beautiful noise from the 3.5 Liter engine. Here’s what I got done over the last few weeks:

1. New fuel sending unit. Old one was giving wonky fuel level readings, and though I did get repair resistance wire from Jacobs-Online, I decided to just go with new.
2. Replace fuel lines at fuel pump. I’ve got an electric Carter Low Pressure High Volume fuel pump installed just forward of the fuel tank under the car. I went under there to redo the routing of the fuel lines, and found a number of large fuel line cracks at the connections. Wasn’t leaking but would have been soon.
3. Replaced banjo bolts and washers for Oil Distribution Bar in the cylinder head. The new style banjo bolts come with Lock-Tite applied. One of the old bolts was barely tight when I removed it; catastrophe avoided!
4. Replaced Accelerator Pump diaphragm on the forward Weber 38/38 carb which was leaking. I had replaced the one on the aft carb just 500 miles prior. Carbs are 16 years old. I’ll be in my 80’s for the next time they need replacement!

Time to drive.

Jeff
