My 72 Automatic has developed some bothering issues. When driving in A and stopping idle goes very low and sometimes dies.
Idle at P park is fine at 900 RPM. Car has been in storage for about a year and ran perfect before. I removed spark plugs and they
all are burning nice and brown. I cleaned and synched the carbs and cleaned the air filters. I have noticed these issues...
1. When I put the lid back on the filter housing idle gets rough 2. Some bubbling in the transparent fuel filter.
3. I have hard starting specially when cold.

Appreciate some advice.

You can simply bump the idle speed screw to 1000rpm, but that’s just a band aid.

Old fuel is a likely suspect.

Buy a bottle of Techron fuel additive and get out on the highway and run the stink out of it.

Buy ethanol-free gasoline if at all possible; especially if the car will sit for long periods of time.

Also, leave the tank full if the car is not in a climate controlled garage. Condensation will develop inside the gas tank and cause all sorts of problems.

Easiest solution? Drive it a lot more :)

X2 on Ed's comments...

"The length of time fuel will remain useable in your gas tank is dependent on the fuel type. Regular gasoline has a shelf life of three to six months, while diesel can last up to a year before it begins to degrade. On the other hand, organic-based Ethanol can lose its combustibility in just one to three months due to oxidation and evaporation."

If your car is going to sit over 3 months, in addition to a full tank add Stabil

To me that would indicate a dirty air filter...you said you cleaned them, but how old are they, and should you consider getting a new set?

Hard starting when cold...........always or after a few days? I do not have this with my Zeniths (you did not mention what you have, Zeniths or Webers) but have this with the Webers. I put in-line one way valves to help out with this.

Bubbling in the filter, make sure all lines are ok. Perhaps sucking air. Make sure filter junctions are secure. Prob replace the filter anyway since the gas in it was a year old and sitting there at one point.

Add location to your profile...............local people can reach out to help you, that is why we are all here.

The Blue Books advise that you set the idle 50 rpm high as installing the air cleaner will drop the idle.

Slight possibility a flaw with the vacuum assisted brake circuit is affecting this?
