I am a little late to the party as the article came out in December. What a beautiful coupe. I recently met Mike Burroughs & Andrew Ritters both of Stanceworks on two separate occasions, respectively. Both really great guys, I know Mike is a member of this site, he used to own a coupe. If it has been previously posted, sorry for double post (nothing came up in search), if not, hope you enjoy article and pictures.

I'm not a fan of black on the coupes but a big fan of this black coupe. Done to perfection.

black coupes need bling ... the newer chrome hood / side grilles make a difference as do refinished belt trims. the bbs rs wheels with the polished lips add a lot as well, i need to go that route with my black coupe, but not 17".

the angle of the photo gives it a really aggressive look ... i like that angle.

car is absolutely gorgeous but would look 1000x better with a front bumper

Why not 17'?

Why not 17'?
i think the coupe looks funny with rubber bands for tires - tires with the right diameter on 17" wheels are very shallow and it makes the proportions all wrong. i even think 16" are too narrow. perfection is 15" on the coupe - the blend of vintage looks plus only marginally better choices than the 14' tires.

i also think you end up with a very harsh ride. if the coupe had progressive springs, it would be better with the very low profile tires ... i drive a 911s every day with 30 / 35 series tires and its not bad, but it has progressive rate springs and wonderful shocks that are well balanced with one another ... i also have the ability to lower the stance by 10mm or 20mm by pressing a button ... which lessens the first stages of the progressive springs for a sportier (but harsher) ride.

my 2 cents, YMMV

My Coupe is running 16" with 50 series sidewalls, and it's lowered on CN springs with Bilstein HD's. It's a little firmer than when I got it but not by much. Ride is floatier than my E39 540 M tech.

My daily driver is a VW GTI, and it's much firmer than the coupe.

I've also turned a corner where I enjoy Stanceworks. I used to detest most of the cars, but they've had some interesting write ups, fantastic photos, and cars that aren't banging frame rails on the ground.

Is it just me or do those wheels look more like 18's than 17's ...

Clearly the tires are super low profiles "(35? 30?) but these look bigger than the regular 17" bbs.

Forgive my ignorance but are those pics not seriously photoshopped ?

Your observations are correct. The images are likely shot in HDR with post processing in photoshop or Lightroom. Stanceworks has a pretty consistent Instagram style cross process filter look
to them.

I know little about either technique. I'm a terrible novice photographer that comes from an extended family of excellent photographers that like to talk shop. Post processing is a topic of great debate amongst the enthusiast community.

The car looks great. Black isn't my favorite e9 color but the photos make this one look fantastic. Your results may vary...

You too can shoot the selective focus/depth of field style like the Stanceworks Photographer..Pick yourself up a 50mm 1.4 lens or better yet (but much more costly) a 90mm Tilt Shift lens and dial in your depth of field. Also if you have a hipster wedding photographer friend these were their "go to" lenses for a long time...
These were shot with a 90mm tilt shift a number of years ago at Monterey.

Love that car. My inspiration somewhat. Just needs a front bumper and a CSL-type front spoiler for absolute perfection.

So time to dig up this old thread but I am glad to see that this car has been discussed. I think it is a great example with wonderful stance - for my liking at least. I tend to agree that a CSL airdam and front bumper would look great and I plan to go that route but really am in awe of this car.

Do we happen to know if Christian is on this forum OR his email? I would love to send him a couple of running gear questions. Namely size and offset of rims and tires.

Stanceworks has a number of great E9 projects, though appreciate that they are not necessarily in line with the purist approach. It is fantastic in my opinion to see all versions of cars from those on 16" Alpinas to the modern restomods. Good stuff.
