I've got a start and dies issue with a 74 3.0CS.

This car was running and driven about an hour total then shut off and upon restart it would die.

I know the aux fan for radiator cooling is not coming on although the AC is switched on.
I've had this before when fan doesn't work car won't start.
Where is the main relay?
Not a fuse as I checked them all.

Gary

The aux fan relay is located up front in the engine compartment, passenger side down by the 2 emissions speed relay boxes, below the ignition coil.

Carbureted cars come with shut off solenoids for fuel supply
Test for 12 volts at the carb with key on.

Thanks Steve and Don,

Will check those tomorrow.

Is there a diagram somewhere that shows what relay does what?

Gary

this is the ac relay (Hella metal can), not sure how this would keep the car from starting though:

Hi Gary -- Have you checked the condition of your battery and whether it is getting a proper charge from the alternator?

Does the car start later after sitting a while?

Are you using a mechanical or electric fuel pump?

And finally, did you buy the big pretty wiring diagram I recommended here:

Those make electrical work much easier (reading the little tiny diagram in the owners manual gets old fast) and you can readily identify the functions of all the relays in the car using it.
