After 18 years in storage and a few complications I am finally starting the restoration on my CSI, Purchased the Car with minor frontal damage in 1997, repaired the front using a front panel from an E3 and drove it for about 10 months and then had somebody pull out in front of me and damaged the front again, this time Insurance supplied a new front panel and spent 40 hours repairing the bonnet (hood). Haven't driven the car since. About 3 months ago I went back to New Zealand packed my E9 onto a container along with a complete parts car and many boxes of parts and shipped them to my new address in Abbotsford BC Canada. In the last couple of weeks I have stripped both Front and Rear Fenders from the car and am happy to say there is minimal rust so far. I will take a few pictures and upload the in the next few days.

Here a few pictures of removal of fenders.

Thanks Ian.
I was struggling to get the link to work!
Removal of the Guards were not too difficult probably spent 3 - 4 hours each, the car had had some repairs done I am guessing 20-25 years ago but so far I have found very little rust, the sills seem to be the worst part and will probably just replace them both, doors are completely rust free, Floors have had minor repairs before I bought the car, There was some damage done to the trunk lid and spare wheel well while the car was in storage about 12 years ago but I have a donor car that has an almost rust free rear half.

Impressive work! It would be great if you could describe any key matters about fender removal. It looks like they came off without cutting or bending and are reuseable?

Nice progress. I would change the location of that drain tube so it wouldn't go down into the rockers like that. Folks usually divert it to the rear well.

Fenders are in pretty good condition and will be reused, I Used a cut-off saw at the original joints to the front panel, Drilled out all of the Spot Welds, Top of the fender, inside the wheel wells, inside the door jam and around the window frame.
Did basically the same process for the rear fenders.
Currently am removing all of the under-seal.

Stiff upper lip

I agree that the stiffening in the trunk could be to make it strong enough to handle the hitch. I'm not sure how much the piece at the front of the spare would contribute, but the rest more or less make sense. Except for the ones in the doors, of course. I have no idea what those would be doing. They look like they are low in the door, not much good in an impact from the side.

Hi Guys, Does anyone have pictures of the Front inner Sills so I may get an Idea how the floors and sill parts all look?
