Gruppe,
i am trying to sort out an alignment issue in the steering column. the problem is that the pad / grab rail on the back of the dash (with the metal trim on the face) doesn't fit right. so i dropped the steering column and removed the grab rail. then reinstalled the grab rail so all of the dash + console fit correctly. then tried to reattach the steering column ... but it is about 1cm to far to the left (too close to the driver's door).
a little background on my car, the car was originally an automatic 2800cs, that was converted to a 5 speed. at that time, to remedy the removal of the automatic position indicator (on top of the steering column housing) and the wiring hole, the PO replaced the steering column to a '74 adjustable column.
my first attempt was to unbolt the column from the firewall (6 bolts) and where it is attached to the underside of the dash (2 bolts). and then try to push it over. no such luck. i did find that under my dash, there are 2 sets of holes ... so it looks like somebody drilled the dash to install the new column, then tried to force the grab rail in place.
my question is, how can i move the column over - any advice would be appreciated.
thanks in advance,
scott
