Square peg in a round hole?
Anyone ever take the brass ring off an E9 streeing wheel and try to make it fit on a steering wheel intended for an NK or 2002?

Hi Stan,
I have taken one of the newer horn contact rings with the integrated signal cancel tabs and fit it onto a 2002 hub. The hub didn't have the two slightly offset screws to hold the ring but it did have the hole for the contact pin - so, I carefully cut the central "dome" with the canceling tab down so that it was tight against the raised spline (this eliminated the need for the screws) and the wire was almost perfectly placed to go through the hole for the contact pin. I hope that makes sense.

I was afraid you'd ask. No photos, but I have another horn ring of the type that I took a photo of and attached. I remember having to trim the two screw tabs off and cut the raised cup-thingy with canceling tab off. You may not have to cut the tab off but for the combination that I had, the plastic piece was too tall to work properly. Luckily the trimmed plastic fit snuggly against the center of the metal hub. (Basically, I cut the one in my photo to more like the one in your photo)
I guess what I am saying is "yes, the E9 ring should work on a 2002 hub with some mods".
I would suggest just taking the ring off its current perch and seeing how it fits. And if it requires more cutting than you are willing to do to your OEM part, get a new one like the one in my photo and cut it up.

Don't bugger up your original one if you intend to use it again, they are difficult to find, I have yet to.

exactly - penske is under 8.42 for the piece. 7.58 at tomkinson for part number 3233 1 118 835

Just posting a picture with the part number, boys. That's all.
