steering wheel splines

They aren't. Our cars use a coarse spline wheel. The splines changed in the 80s to the fine spline, I believe the splines changed around 1985.

The e9 steering wheels have ‘coarse’ splines versus the ‘fine’ splines’ of later BMWs. 36 splines vs 54 splines.

Iwas thinking of brazing in the old to the a newer type then i could get a short model adapter
for that actually i could get e9 spline from an old wheel cut it out and drill tap and bolt it to the new style
so anyone have a cheap old wheel
get out the sawsall

This period correct nardi/personal hub fits your wheel and is pretty short. About 4.5 - 5" long I'd say. I have the same hub in my car. I would measure it but I don't know where my car is. ;)

I did this to my old wheel, cut the base off and mounted to a Grant hub and used a Grant steering wheel. If Grant made a 380 size wheel I would be using it.
