Over the years, my wife has complained about the "engine smell" coming into the ****pit. Well, I could never (or rarely) smell anything. I thought it could be coming in the wing windows or through the trunk.
Well, as some may know I am preparing my car for paint so in the process I have removed a lot of the interior as well as all exterior trim. To remove the passenger side kick panel, the glove box needed to come out. Once I pulled that out and was laying on the floor looking under the dash I saw daylight from the area of the firewall!!! Evidently, the grommet surrounding the AC pipe or hose entering the cabin has shrunk over the years leaving a large gap! Peter (the Coupe King) recommended I plug the hole with plumbers putty which will remain flexible. So when the car is done I will apply this fix before re-installing the glove box.
Maybe this will help someone else.
