Since he passed away today, I highly recommend this article, written by his co-driver about his record setting Mille Miglia. Serious guts, nerve, and skill. Mindlblowing even by today's standards. The top speeds achieved on those tires and in those conditions is frightening. What a stud.

Great to reread this after his death. And Jencks having the faith to partner him at 170 mph on those Italian roads! I know what some of those roads are like, especially around Bologna, and it is beyond my conception to drive at those speeds on those roads for so long.
He used to say he'd be flying down a straight in a grand prix race checking out the crumpet. What a guy!
