My brass overflow tank is painted black. Is bare metal the original form? If so, how do I strip the tank?
I have seen chrome overflow caps. Are these period correct? Too garish? Available?

I have to refinish mine as well. Was thinking I would just sand off the sheen on the Black paint and re-coat. What paint are you going to use? I was thinking I would try Eastwoods radiator paint.

So they were not unpainted Brass from the factory? Perhaps all I need is a brass cap.
Available?

I think so. W113 MBs have a similar situation, pancake and round tanks of brass that start out black and owners polish back to the brass.

I am going back to brass. It can always be painted again. Brass is such a lovely metal. And the brass cap.
