Seemed the fuel tank filler neck but now unsure (at least that’s where the concentrated smell is coming from). I realize this may be forensics. - I’ve read the great post by Chris Macha which I can follow, but hope to narrow down. In mean time, does anything look suspicious in this photo?

Thanks

If you have not replaced the O-ring on your fuel sending unit lately you should start there. Also check for leaks around the fuel lines in the trunk leading fron the hard line to the fuel sending unit. There is a plastic part that allows an 8mm fuel line to connect to the smaller sized sending unit. that plastic part cracks over time and needs to be replaced. It is NLA, but search on the forum for solutions.

Is there a vent hose hooked to your filler neck, looks like it is missing?
Just this two inch bit in pic. Should there be a longer line that vents somewhere?

You had mentioned this in your post - "The one that many ignore is the gas tank venting system. On US coupes the gas tank filler pipe has a hose that goes to the fuel vapor catchment tank on the right side wheel arch. From there a blue plastic line runs on the right side of the car and emerges in the engine bay in front of the passenger. From there it goes to the charcoal canister under the battery and then to the bottom of the air cleaner."

Also there is no fuel vapor catchment tank, if that matters.
