Howdy coupers,

A surprise arrived in the mail recently and it is being held captive by the frozen Allen bolts.
This is a 'Holy Grail' of period correctness my for tribute rod and for me...

Anybody got a good trick to remove the frozen allen bolts holding the steering wheel (late 60s Momo) to the hub.

I care about the wheel and its period patina, it will get re-wrapped, the hub is disposable.
Pics to follow once this beauty is installed.

TIA

Frozen

Mini vise grips. Tighten first and then work out slowly in small increments of loosen / tighten as to avoid snapping them off. Kroil first if you can spray...any pics of the wheel?

Soak with Kroil, 1/2 acetone/1/2 ATF, etc. Place an appropriate straight allen bit in each bolt and give it a few sharp raps with a mid-sized hammer.

Got 'em!

American (Craftsman) Allen key, soaked for a bit in some 3 in 1 oil and some carefully applied torque got 5 of 6 loose. Had to drill out the last but went easily. The higher quality american steel Allens didn't twist like some cheapos I had.

The concours level leather re-wrap has to wait. Got a cover that has a period look, sort of like a vintage Heuer watch 'rally' band. Seemed appropriate. ;-)

Just got back from a test spin, itsa groove thang!

Pics soon.

I recall a post a while back about a fella (east coast?) who does very nice Momo wheel re-wraps/restorations, anybody got his info/link?

Uggghh on AGLA...search Alan Gunn "customer service".

I used him years ago and the work was average at best, not at all accurate. Others have had downright bizarre experiences with delays, communication and returns.
