Stuck Rear window

The drivers side rear window on my 71 E9 is stuck in the closed position. I removed the quarter panel cover and opened the motor housing. The motor operates up and down when the switch is pressed. The nylon gear stops it from turning more than a small amount. Is there any way to release the window and let it down so I can remove the complete assy. I can not remove the interior trim with the window in the up position. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

turn the nylon gear with your finger and the window will move. It will be slow, as the transmission runs something like a 47 to 1 reduction gear, but you will eventually get it down.

Windows get stuck at the limit of their travel, usually closed. There's supposed to be a little rubber "bumper" on the mechanism to allow a bump stop rather than the mechanism running up under full power and jamming to a sudden stop.
