Stupid Seat Belt question

Its been a while, but my 73 came with seat belts and we are trying to figure out whats not working properly or are the receptacles frozen . The belt itself has the mtal blade with a round projection that I assume is to go into the slot in the belt receptacle, however, the metal strike plate which I assume should move inward to allow for the belt to enter is either frozen or my pea brain cannot figure out how to engage the belt clip into the receptacle.

any suggestions without completely shattering my ego??

The tongue of the lap belt should insert into the female receiver just like any normal belt. The shoulder belt hooks into the lap belt using the keyhole like slot/post. The fixed belts are a pain to use.

Full retractable

I am planning on (somehow) replacing the seatbelt system to incorporate a standard shoulder/lap retractable system. I have the lower part figured out (duh) but where would one attach the shoulder anchor as it seems too low to attach it to the area equal or slightly below the glass line. Any suggestions or pictures available?

Peter,

which year model do you have? 2800cs doesn't have the roof attachment that '71 to '73 3.0cs has ... the '74 has the rear mounted tension wheel and hooks to the upper side of the body (behind the door). in the '71 - '73, some people have lowered the angle above the shoulder with an attachment piece.

on my 2800cs i just have lap belts. what i am going to work on this winter is something similar to what is on my porsche - a low tension wheel (low, front corner behind the door) with a turning point in the top of the side panel so that it crosses the shoulder.

Bluedevils

I replaced that system in my 73 with an after market made by a guy who goes by bluedevil
Search this site for threads. He makes a very nice replacement piece!

The question

Hi Scott,

On the pics below it seems that the shoulder point is too low to be effective unless it somehow ran through the seat itself. I'm planning on (eventually) putting in the proper Recaro's so it would seem that the mounting point would have to be higher. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

74 shoulder belt

here is what i have in my 74 - used existing mounting holes, bought generic shoulder belt ($100 for pair), had to modify slightly as reel was made to be mounted vertically. works great.

the mounting point shown in Alan's pic, is the pivot point that i am considering - just going down rather than going back. what i like about the location is that it crosses the shoulder rather than being so high that it would grab your neck in the case of a crash. this is the configuration in my porsche - it is very comfortable.

Thanks Scott, Alan & Stan

Alan, I like the Porsche in the background, I will search for the thread but a question about the rear mounted belt spool- does that effect the centrifugal force catches for the belt?

peter,
the centrifugal force catches work just fine when mounted in this horizontal position. re my comment below, i had to modified the units i ordered slightly as they were meant to be mounted vertically. this just involved removing a small ball-bearing that locked the entire mechanism when unit not vertical.

I was saving this car

I have an '85 633 CSI with no title because I bought it for parts, but it came with a spare Getrag 265, so I did not need to break it up, turns out it had the wrong (not 256) trans in it anyhow. Now I'm thinking of disassembling it for the parts that might fit like the seat belts and e-baying other bits and pieces. If anyone has any other ideas of parts that might augment the 3.0 or parts they may want from a the EFI, etc., please let me know.

Thanks,
