I had the alu parts out for machine polishing. Came back like new!!
There was a black sort of tape on the bottom sides of the long parts with the sliding channels. These came off as the heat built up while polishing.
What´s their puropose?
Necessary to stick back on or replace with similar tape?

People have talked about teflon tape on this board. Very good and very espensive..
Where would that go in case I find or buy some?

Thanks!

My tape came off also,I can see no purpose for it other than buffer between aluminum guides and car body.Someone once stated that BMW designed these cars so that no two pieces of trim metal rubbed against each other?Could lead to rattling noises,I guess.

I did my alu trim for my sunroof this winter. I used the good old brand AUTOSOL. (best ever polishing grease)

Result = As new and shining like the bumpers!!!

Regarding the sliding surfaces:
Using teflon tape is also a way to "overdoing" things. But if you or a friend is working at 3M... so go for it.

Using a thin layer of grease on the sliding areas, or in a modern way using a dust of silicone spray will also do the job.

The sunroof normally working less than 3000 rpm, so don't spend your BMW$ on teflontape.
