Ok, so this is probably a stupid question, but when installing a new rear spring on my coupe I did not get the spring compressors in exactly the same place on the new spring. This means the newly installed spring is roughly 15 degrees off from the old one, meaning the ends do not sit flush into the spring pad seats.

The only fix for this would be to again compress the springs far enough to turn them.

So, rather than fixing my mistake (Annabelle is constant teaching me humility), I am posting this just in case I don't need to redo this because everyone knows that the spring will right itself.

Comments?

IIRC the pads fit a certain way into the subframe so the end of the spring then can only fit into the notch a certain way. Sounds to me like you will need to turn accordingly.

Yes, there is a bump in the metal toward the outside of the car that orients the pad notch inboard toward the differential. Thus, the spring only fits one way.

Rats.

No need to compress the spring.

Release the nut at top of shock.
Rotate spring and install nut at shock.

If you have extra long springs like H&B, unbolt the half shaft at the outer end.

If it's a 74 there is no sway bar.
