I recently bought a 1975 3.0 CSA from Sweden. I am told by a friend there that BMW Sweden bought the last batch of coupes from BMW AG & modified them to suit Swedish laws & sold them all. My car is the second to last built & was first registered in 1976.
It has some interesting things fitted. Headlamp wash/wipe, air-con, seat belts mounted on the roof. And something I have never seen on a coupe before, a one piece carpet. Similar to that fitted to 3 and 5 series that followed shortly afterwards.

Congratulations!
Yes, it is very important to comply with Swedish law or you can end up in this jail in Malmo:

I can see why they have no fences around the soccer field, I would rather stay in.

But I digress, the law may have been introduced with the 1974 Regeringsformen where powers were shifted to Parliament and away from the Monarch. Monarchs are know to live a life of excess on their multiple expensive carpets, so what better way to stick it to them than to mandate spartan one piece carpets.

I once owned a Euro 1975 CSA with the one-piece carpet you mentioned. The rear deck/hat rack had the same carpeting and, it had what appeared to to be a factory rectractable rear window shade. I don't know its origin though. It also had an OEM telescoping steering column and power driver's rear view mirror.

No kidding, my car is a wreck according to him!!

My Swedish 74 has the ceiling belts too, probably has something to do with laws on retractable belts. No single piece carpet though. Holes were drilled for washers but no washers in place when I bought it

Congrats to the second last VIN of a CSA (if you want to sell it, you know who to contact ...).

The Swedish E9s were all modified (law requirements) by the Swedish importeur "Förenade Bil AB" in Malmö:

- Ceiling mounted "Klippan" Safety belts in the front
- Automatic roll-back rear Klippan belts
- Headlight Washers (cut-outs in the front grills)

But the most imported was that all late E9s were registered as year model 1975B even if they were sold in 1976. This because of the exhaust emissions law that entered into force as from 1976.

The story tells that the Swedish importeur did not sold any E9s with both sun roof and AC. It was either AC or sun roof.

I just checked some old records, and although I sold the car years ago, I still have the GA title. VIN 4320464.
 
My understanding, the roll up shades on the rear shelf are out of early 5 series cars and were never an option on an e9. Correct????

Pics of the kind of "original" Klippan E9 roll-back rear seat belts would be in interest for a lot of us. Since my wreck is a late 1973 Swedish imported beauty and without retractable rear belts.

This question with rear retractable seatbelts been and always will be a safety issue when bringing our kids/friends along with our (deadly) car.

Tony, bring us some nice pics on the rear seat belts together with your latest car status (Tony is my local E9 guru) :-)

I thought you would know more about these coupes ! Apparently the last car still exists in Sweden. My car has a Blaupunkt Stockholm installed, very fitting.

My -74 do not have these belts, sorry too much wine yesterday.
But -75 that I have sold have these fitted and also a carpet in one piece.
There is interest in these cars among the younger generation too :-)

Hello guys from Sweden

I bought my -75 csi from Eskilstuna five years ago, sold new from "Förenade bil" Stockholm.
the car also had
- Ceiling mounted "Klippan" Safety belts in the front
- Automatic roll-back rear Klippan belts
- Headlight Washers
- one piece carpets
- sunroof
- rear parcel shelf covering made of carpet material

First I would like to say hello to ajl from Finland! Really nice to have you around. Post all your experience you doing with your car here.

Then, one piece carpet!! Never ever heard of it. Must look terrific?

Standard rear retractable seatbelts.... Wow!

For the rest of us with "real" old E9's, we are not jealous.... or are we? :-)
