Tacho not working

Hello all,

Trying to but my car back together, i am currently doing the dash and have now discovered that the tachometer doesnt work.

Everything else does in the cluster...........i think. The lights come on and the hand brake warning light works correctly.

I have tried swapping it out with another tachometer but i still don't get anything.

I guess its a wiring issue but any ideas would be a great help.

Check the black wire to the coil from the tach. Can't remember, might be red/black.

Not red black- depends on the year build.
74 model can be dark green grafted to black at the brake
Reservoir area. Otherwise it's black at the coil around front of car
And twined to the diagnostic plug.

Recently had this problem as well, turned out to be some of the small electronic components in the gauge itself.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your help, you certainly helped me solve this problem.

I found the missing black wire that was hiding behind the lights, turned into a bigger job than expected to fix the wiring that was a little butchered by the previous owner. So happy to have ticked another box though.

What's next ...........
