Tail Lenses--Can they be taken apart or rechromed?

All: I bought a set of Euro tail lenses that are in nice shape except for the chrome on the left one. I'd like to get them rechromed or restored, but the plastic lenses seem embedded or pressed into in the metal. Does anyone know how to take these apart--or if they could be put back together after? Thanks.

What makes tail lenses euro? With exception of early 2800CS/late 121 all red lenses, aren't they all the same?

Ah -- but all 121 tail lenses were all red (no amber), as well as early 2800CSs that finished off the supply. There's no difference between us-imported and non-Hoffman-imported 121 rear lenses. Don't mean to quibble, but let's not start a myth...

red-red tailight lens--first 50? or so 2800 CS's

BMW looked on the parts shelf for lens and voila--found red/red lens--from parts carrying over from the 2000 CS--they're installed on #16--the BLUMAX

Very shortly our recently ordained and enlightened? DOT "bearurats" (sp?)stipulated that US spec cars would have rear lens that display amber turn indicators--now--many years later red/red is again vogue. Nothing like inspired government engineering and their micro-managing of motor car design!

Maybe Governer Corzine of New Jersey could now become the poster child for automotive safety--being sure to buckle up-and wear your seat belt.

That is when he recovers from the traumatic life threatening injuries he recently sustained when all the air bags went off in the high speed 93 mph SUV accident--was being chauffered by a New jersey Highway Patrol Officer--wonder if he is in deep do-do--the big problem--Governer C. wasn't wearing a seat belt!! It obvious that seat belts are still key to injury prevention as you are contained--air bags are not a substitute!!

From the old Navy guy who has been wearing seat belts since 1952-- thankfully accident and injury free.

I dunno, Murray. Amber lenses were the bee's knees, back in the day. And they weren't really a US legislated thing. Witness 1970's European vs US Volkswagens, Porsches and Mercedes, which had a substanstial enough rate of US importation, to warrant all red lenses here versus the european amber and red. You pay a premium to this day for Euro 1970's amber lenses for VWs or Porsches.

Aside from the early 2800CSs, all subsequent E9s, whether bound for the continent or elsewhere, received amber.
