Cleaning up a tail light that I just bought that is in need of the foam gasket that fits in a groove in the lens (chrome) surround...are these available separately?...I don't see a part number on the Penske/OEM part catalog...or does anyone have extras?...Thanks

some lenses that i recently bought had a black gasket. in looking closer at them they are a square cellular foam structure, kind of like water pipe insulation ... except it was made as a rectangle ... its not cut down. the material is wrapped around the lens to the right length - slightly less than the diameter and glued together.

Dave,

I bought new ones from W&N about 2 years ago. PN 63.21.1.811.001. Rectangular cross section and grey.

Ditto, worked fine.

For tail light buckets, I used industrial U-Channel Grey EPDM part #3071 from Wefco see-

These guys make it on demand via a weekly production run.

Looks the same, but is relatively stiff (Not a foam). Dimensions are nominal (not exact). I had to tack it on with fast cure cyanoacrylate to get it to stay put around the corners and turns.

I bought enough to do 2-1/2 sets at $47 total including set up and freight. If a large production run was executed, the cost could come down perhaps justifying a group purchase. If someone wants to part with $20 pay pal, I'll stuff enough to do a set in an envelope and send it off. Pics below.

And Yes, I will be re-installing my plastic nuts.

i was under the impression the original post was about the outer gasket between the body and the lens. was i mistaken?

the gasket for the lamp housing looks reasonably good. Ed, did you try heating it to make it bend easier?

Two different gaskets

rsporsche - My original post and part number refer to the outer gasket in the chrome tail light piece per Dave's question. The bulk of Ed's post refers to the inner gasket around the grey plastic lamp housing (this gasket is NLA).

Ed - Did you consider this channel profile in the softer neoprene material? I may be interested in your scrap piece.

1. Point taken, you're not mistaken, just a little bit of ADD on my part. I thought I'd share info on the other gasket to save anyone else some time on what I found to be NLA.

2. The u channel was easy to bend but it's relative stiffness and memory wouldn't allow it to stay put. You can easily bend it into place, but will slide off when you let go. Some super glue at some strategic points fixed that fine. I spent a lot of time looking for a sponge rubber product including typical home weatherstripping, but couldn't find anything close.

Hi I’m not near the car, can anyone advise on the dimensions of the U channel seal?

Thanks

Scott, don't you have a cheap U.S. based substitute for this? I recall getting some from you about 5 years ago.

i bought some generic material from Steele Rubber. i think its one of these edge trims - https://www.steelerubber.com/universal-edge-trim
i just don't remember the actual size. but at roughly 5 bucks / ft, its going to cost 12.5 to 15 bucks / side plus shipping. if i remember correctly, its the 3rd one from the top left

p/n: 70-3597-99 is closest. But that part from them is barbed and 50% more $ than CSwerke.

i'm pretty sure that is the one i used. the barb helped to keep it in place and i had no issues with it ... when i searched for this, CS Werk didn't offer this piece. i figure you need a max of 3' for one piece so that would be 15 bucks. isn't the CS Werk piece 20 euro for one - plus shipping from europe? if 20 euro for 2, then its a great price. i know all of the pieces from CS Werk are excellent products ... and their fit is great.
