tail light lens

Got 'em

I just bought this tail light and it's left hand companion.

I many never need them, but feel like I should have spares for these hard to come by items. Yes, someone will make reproductions sometime in the future.

Maybe they'll be good, maybe not.

Cracks and rust included?!?!?! };>)

For $200, what does one expect? Your tails (sold as a set) were listed at $375 each. At nearly double the price, I would expect there to be a significant difference in condition. Don't get me wrong, I often see very nice sets of tails listed in the range that you offered yours. You have to pay to play right?

I think one can find tails similar to the Ebay ad above at $100 each. Obviously, they will not be perfect.

i also think the coupeking listing is well presented and fairly priced.

i think a frame with a little patina and perhaps some very fine pimples and no large visible cracks is worth every bit of 200 to 300 dollars - a drivers side is much harder to find in great shape due to the exhaust below it ... there seems to be more trauma to lights on that side of the car. i think a perfect frame + lens is easily (currently) worth 350 to 600 ... especially when the last ones for sale (new) were 1200 ea. several years ago when you could buy both sides, they were 600 ea.

if you want a comparison, look at rogerstii.com ... there are some used lights for sale for 150 each ... there is a significant amount of rust pimples and some major cracks in some of the lenses. there is another passenger side for 650, that is crack free and very nice chrome. i personally question whether i would pay 150 for a lens that has that much rust and those size cracks.

"You have to pay to play right?" I totally agree, and I get flamed (not by you) for asking $750 shipped for my TWO less than perfect ones?!?!

And I do realize this one is rare!

At any rate, they are off the market, and I wish I had never put them up for sale. Lesson learned. Be safe and God bless! RB

Roger,

that new one from coupeking is rare as it is a France only model with the amber reverse light ... and its brand new ... as well as being a drivers side.

the pair that you sold recently for 1200 to 1300 bucks looked to be excellent. in that condition, probably worth every penny ...

to me, perfect chrome is the best thing to have for sale, if the lenses aren't perfect, hopefully they can be replaced when Stan's guy gets the replacements done. if you have perfect lenses and horrible chrome, then the lenses are going to have to be removed to rechrome the frame ... the likelihood of damage to the lenses is high ... therefore not as valuable.

my 2 cents

As I stated above:

Roger,

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to be rude, honestly. I have to ask what lesson you learned, as you have mentioned it twice and you seem genuinely disappointed in the lack of interest in your lenses. You had one person suggest that you revisit the price, one person recommend techniques to entice sale, and two people flat out disagree with your listing price. Three people out of hundreds of members and prospective buyers. You certainly weren't flamed by anyone on this civil (borderline utopian) forum. Negotiation is a given when buying/selling used parts. I wouldn't take my house off the market after receiving three counter offers.

I place my parts on here at a price I will accept and consider fair. I don't need to be told what they are worth and what I should sell them for. Lesson learned: Don't offer up any parts on here anymore. Anyone not interested in what I had to offer at my price, should have moved on to the next topic. At least that is what I do.

Have a nice day, God bless, and be safe. RB

It takes all kinds

There are many well intentioned folks here. Some want to maximize the value of their or our passion, believing they are helping, while others wish to "help" the passion inflicted find a good deal. The latter are prone to move their treasures along at below max value because they enjoy assisting this community in their own way. Realists end up somewhere in between.

A well described, honest ad on eBay, clearly showing the item's weaknesses, usually determines what is realistic. Once again and beaten to death- something's only worth what someone's willing to pay for it.

Bottom line is- nobody should get bent out of shape for discussing what they consider fair value as long as the actual condition is clearly represented. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

I apologize for the rhetoric.
