My '69 2800cs got an amber turn signal lense on one side years ago, and I've since bought a decent used all red lense.

Problem is, the chrome frame is a lot more pitted than the old one.

So...could I somehow cut out the plastic part of the lense and swap it over to the nicer frame?

I think people have done that...

Yes, I have done that.........its easy, but a dirty job.
I was covered all over with yellow, white and red dust, and my Dremmel too!
You only have to grind off the overstanding material on the backside, than gentle click out the lenses.
A re-chrome of the frame (only with small pickles) is also possible........I´ve done that too.
