Does anyone know if the Splines on a VW hub are the same in number and size to those of a Petri Hub and whether or not they might be interchangeable.

Thanks,

Michael

I can't tell you the size or the spline count but it will not fit. The Scirocco wheel itself is a 380mm Petri foam wheel, but the hub and button are different.

If you got a Scirocco wheel cheap enough, you could address the hub issue by modifying another hub (drill and tap) or buy ego bgo's copy on ebay and then use a momo style button for a reasonable clone.

The Scirocco wheels aren't always cheap though, the early water cooled VW guys like them too.

I'm assuming you are looking at an old wheel. Like BMW, VW switched to a higher spline count in the '80's.

Thanks so much and yes you're correct, I found a 38cm Petri that came from a Scirocco, it was in pretty good shape and reasonably priced. I also thought I had a Petri Hub purchased about a year or so ago but now after closer investigation it doesn't look quite right so from the sounds of it I'm going to need a hub now too.

Hopefully after it's recovered and I've found a hub and horn button it would all still have made sense! I'll keep you posted, and appreciate the advice.

Michael

If you are on Facebook, there is a group called Vintage Volante. It is a group that is only European steering wheels. Time to time, Hans Wortelboer will sell 38cm Petri's with the hub for an E9.

Wahoo my 1,000th post! :)
