WOOHOO!!! My buddy and I just installed a new windshield in my CS.... and got it in on the FIRST try!
Last time we did this it took 4 of us the better part of a day and 6 failed attempts to get it right. I guess maybe we DID learn something......

He's a member here.....
He's on the east coast, but he had the windshield transferred to a warehouse here in LA so there was no shipping! Just a $10 transfer fee and I picked it up on my lunch hour.....

The Gasket was from BMW (Penske parts)
It all fit REALLY well

That's great to hear. I bought one of his windshields a while back 'just in case' - and look forward to not having to use it - at least not anytime soon.

That's encouraging to hear. I've just bought a front screen and seal (from Walloth and Nesch). Any tips for an anguish-free installation?

Okay, I’m going to bite, what the heck did you learn  in those 6 failed attempts ? Many of us would like to accomplish the same thing in only 2 or 3 attempts <grin>. Thank you ~ John Buchtenkirch

Ok... The 2 things that REALLY matter.....Spend the time to make the trim strip EXACTLY the right shape. They get tweaked very easily when you remove them.
And...This is the BIG one..... The outside person pushing the windshield into place (while the inner guy pulls the rope), needs to follow along with a plastic (or other non scratch)flat implement to keep the outside edge of the gasket up on the body. Without this, the rope will pull the thin outer edge of the seal down and pop the trim out of it's slot. Then you get to start over....

Did I mention that the trim HAS to be installed in the Gasket BEFORE you install the windshield? Just as the Blue book says.....
Hope this helps....

Thanks, that sounds like really sound advice to me. The moldings are always a problem on any rubber gasket mounted glass. Did you glue the rubber gasket to the windshield edge before you started installing the moldings ? ~ John Buchtenkirch
