I found this price for motor oil jaw dropping. I Was in a Munich gas station filling up my 1.2 litre Seat rental car and thought I 'd have a look at the oil shelf. A DIY oil change on my 2.5 litre E46 wagon would cost $278 USD with a filter.

Synthetic correct? Should be able to go 10,000 miles on a change, possibly once per year then? But yes, pretty spendy.

I'm told that a Subaru turbo running synthetic still needs a short drain interval. I normally change the E46 at 6,000 miles.

I'm pretty sure you could buy a 4 litre oilcontainer of the same oil for the same price, if you buy it from anywhere else than a gas station. Their markup is ridiculous in most cases.

One-at-a-time

Petrol stations figure on selling one to motorist to top off, so yes this is probably an extreme case of markup.

I have always dreamed of buying a barrel of synthetic, but that's pricey.
