btw; door lock mechanisms can be quite dirty as well...This is how mine came out, though it still worked well.

the plates make a difference. my car did not have them on it after the PO painted it. i just bought new ones from W+N (not expensive)
i just checked on w+n, and they weren't on the website, perhaps i got the last pair they had.
also don't forget the little cap that goes on the latch ear - #14 on 41 / 12. its only 3.24 euro. this little piece makes a difference.

Thanks, Erik! The door rubbers are old and somewhat deteriorated, so they may not be a factor. I will try again to adjust the latch striker and see if that helps.
