I'd like to give a massive shout out, thanks and praise to Steve Armstrong for the incredible sacrifice of his vacation time to help me address the issues related to my coupe.

Steve is the best. He's in the short list of members of this forum I've been very lucky to meet and have work on my coupe that include SF Don and my now very dear friend Terry Conners. These guys don't do it for the net return (although that's nice if it happens!) or the work for hire - they do it because they love these cars as much (if not more) than anyone I've met.

Did we fix my coupe today? Kinda. But what I love more about Steve than his personality, time committed that was beyond generous and the skills he possesses is that at the end of our day (four hours he offered) - he would have probably stayed longer...with no expectation.

That's not a car. That's a lifestyle.

Thank you Steve, Terry and Don for showcasing such great passion for these cars.

As for my coupe? Well - it's time for it to go home to Cali. ;)

Cheers,
SHIMBO

Three of the best guys I know as well and I have been fortunate enough to meet many others here as well. If I tried to list them all I would leave someone out and feel very bad but I will list a few. Besides Don and Terry (I have yet to meet Steve in person) I have enjoyed having Stan, Arde and Scott over for dinner. In fact we now call the guest room Stan's room! What a great community of coupe owners, couldn't ask for more.

I am annoyed not having complete success today, I should have stayed and skipped Ricky Martin in Evita (but that's another topic-at least they serve adult beverages in situ). At least we got the gas leaks fixed.

Thanks for the kind words but this was not a sacrifice of my vacation, it was part of it. Like others, I enjoy meeting fellow enthusiasts and sharing our common bond (disease?) even though we come from different backgrounds and work in different fields, etc. I have been the recipient of much generosity and help on this forum from the aforementioned usual suspects (and 61Porsche a lot too) and enjoy helping when I can to try and keep our cars on the road. There are many others here with a heck of a lot more knowledge than I.

Nice to meet you Michael and I hope you get her running to spec, if not I'll be up for another try this summer :)

Your coupe is fantastic btw.

I would add DeQuincey to the list as well. his diagrams of repairs and upgrades are the best and he has gone the extra mile in helping to source difficult NLA parts.

Moreover...

A) I learned a SH@TLOAD from Steve as I have from Terry and Don
B) Turns out we have business interests together
C) My head wasn't cracked! But now the mission to figure out the resolve.

Steve did more than fix the burst hoses that resulted in the gas leak. We literally spent four hours in a very, very cold garage with no heat while he wrenched on my whip. Trouble shooting resulted in the car running safely again without leaks - but also uncovered the CRAP work done by a "trusted" garage here in NYC.

Check out the t-stat they installed. Not only was it cemented in the housing - the FOUR holes drilled were not only erroneous - but not even positioned towards the bleed. Oh - the one that they claimed needed replaced? It was fine...just as Terry had installed two years ago.
